Before you start organizing your product backlog, writing your user stories or meeting your stakeholders, create a story map first. When I first started writing my stories I jumped right into writing user stories with well defined acceptance criteria. While my user stories were easy to groom, they failed to illustrate the big picture. In fact whenever I wrote my stories I failed to understand where in the user journey my story fit in.
This is why you need to create a simple story map before you dive into story writing. A story map will help you outline the key epics / activities your user will need from the product. More importantly the story map is built around the narrative flow. The narrative flow is how your users will flow through your application from the start to the end.
